A favorite photo I originally found on a Ferbane, Offaly, Ireland website that is no more.

Behind the Stone, Ferbane, Ireland

Ferbane was the town near my grandmother’s birth in Creggan, Kings County.
The more I look at this photo, the more it reminds me of The Graveyard Book by @neilhimself

Thanks to Tom’s comment below, this photo is likely from Clonmacnoise Monastic Site, which is northwest of Ferbane.

I am sure your photograph is actually Clonmacnois Monastic Site, not Ferbane, Co. Offaly (formerly King’s County). Only 10 miles apart as it happens!
    Kind Regards

P.S. I live in Ferbane! By the way Clonmacnois is very much there and part of our Diocesan life.

    Tom,

Of course – sorry for the confusion! I originally was just posting the photo and thought I should add a little context, but my poorly written text and title confused things.

What I meant to say was that the site I originally found the photo on is a Ferbane website that is no more. (Ferbane.tv)

My knowledge of the area is from family research alone, but I should have realized that tower was a clue to it being Clanmacnois!

Hoping one day soon I’ll get to visit the area in person and meet some cousins.

Thanks for your comments – I’ll fix the text in the post to avoid confusing others…
